It's been a long time since I posted anything about the studios or the workshops we run there so I thought it was about time I did!

​Today was all about making a hard-backed book - with gorgeous results:

The books are A6, made with good quality 120gsm paper, with headbands and ribbons, rounded spines and covered with backcloth and decorative paper; all in one day! The results look great and I think everyone did very well.

Had a great time with the 2nd year Fine Art Photography students at Glasgow School of Art, teaching them how to make books.  They are currently working on a book project and there were lots of ideas being discussed and shared.  I really enjoyed interacting with the students and talking about the book structures and how they could be used.

Unfortunately, had such a good time I forgot to take any photographs! The irony!!

It was also great to be back in the department seeing the tutors again as well as friends still studying there.  Also gate-crashed the 4th year final drinks party and helped them celebrate the coming degree show!  A great bunch and I'm sure it'll be a great show - looking forward to it.

Was delighted to be asked by The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours to deliver a book-making workshop during their annual exhibition at the RSA .  We had 9 enthusiastic makers and lots of onlookers!  The surroundings were a little daunting at first, but we soon got into the swing of it!

Another great workshop at studios today.  Everyone was so eager and enthusiastic, it was such a pleasure to run - didn't really want it to end!  Were having so much fun we forgot to take photos of the day, but here are some of the finished articles (and the one we did take!)  Need to get some more dates in the diary soon.

What a great first ever workshop at The Old Printing Works this weekend. Everyone learned lots of book folding techniques and plenty of tips to make practical, creative and fun books. It was certainly good fun to deliver and the space worked out really well. I'm really looking forward to the sewn books workshop this Saturday, 26 July.
